RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification and comprises three frequency ranges for different applications. NFC is the smartphone-compatible part of the HF range. Which range, standard and chip are required is usually dictated by your existing reading system.
In simple terms: RFID enables contactless identification and data exchange between a reader and a transponder in a card, fob or wristband. Passive media obtain their energy from the reader's field. Depending on the application, a fixed identifier (UID) or stored, protected data is used. The possible reading distance depends on the frequency, standard, antenna, transponder and reader. NFC is the part of the HF range that enables communication with NFC-enabled smartphones.
LF · 125 kHz
Low frequency
Short range, robust even near metal and liquids. Widely used for identification and access in existing installations. Smartphones do not read these chips.
EM · HITAG
HF · 13.56 MHz
High frequency
Short to medium range, depending on standard and antenna. ISO/IEC 14443 for proximity applications, ISO/IEC 15693 for greater reading distances. Large chip selection for access control and similar systems.
ISO 14443: MIFARE, DESFire · ISO 15693: I-CODE
NFC · 13.56 MHz
Near Field Communication
HF band at 13.56 MHz for communication with NFC-enabled smartphones. Whether a medium can be used on the smartphone depends on the chip, data format and terminal device.
NTAG · MIFARE ULTRALIGHT
UHF · 866 MHz
ultra-high frequency
Long Range over greater distances, depending on system and environment. Bulk reading of many transponders, often referred to as RAIN RFID. For logistics, inventory and asset tracking.

At doors, terminals and turnstiles, every single transaction counts. That is why we precisely tailor the chip and, where requested, the encoding to your system and test every medium before the series goes into production.
We never make compatibility claims lightly, as a card that reads correctly in the laboratory is by no means guaranteed to work on your reader. There is therefore a clear, verified process in place between your enquiry and delivery. This protects your budget and your schedule.
A specific chip rather than a generic term
MIFARE, NFC or RFID are families, not a specification. We work with you to determine the exact chip, including generation, memory and standard, so that nothing deviates unexpectedly later on.
Templates in the original system
Before the series runs, test representative samples with the final chip on your actual equipment. Only when everything checks out there should you approve production for release.
Golden sample and approval
The layout, electronic data and functionality are approved in writing. This reference sample then serves as the binding standard for the entire production run.
Functional testing of each medium
Your media arrives precisely as your project requires: from the unprinted white card to the encoded, personalised card packaged by issue point.
Coding (optional)
By default, we supply without customer-specific application coding. Upon request, we code according to your approved coding and key specification.
Numbering and personalisation
Blank, with consecutive or laser-engraved numbering, optionally with photo, name, QR code and associated UID list, provided technically available and ordered.
Double-sided logo printing
Your logo brilliant and durable under laminate, front and back, with optional finishing.
Assembly and dispatch
Delivered sorted by location or department so that output runs smoothly at your end without any need for rework.
Medienproduktion und Systemcodierung sind zwei verschiedene Dinge. Wir trennen sie sauber, damit von Anfang an klar ist, was wir liefern und was Ihr System oder Ihr Integrator vorgibt.
Unkodierte Medien

NFC is a sub-category of HF RFID technology and operates at 13.56 MHz. The difference lies in the protocols and range, as NFC is designed for very short distances and for communication with smartphones. RFID also encompasses the LF band at 125 kHz and the UHF band at 866 MHz, and thus covers a broader range of applications.
The chip selection is usually dictated by your existing reader and software infrastructure. Tell us the manufacturer and model, for example SALTO, Gantner, dormakaba or Interflex, and we will suggest the appropriate medium, upon request with encoding to your specification. The solution finder at the top of this page gives you an initial orientation immediately.
No. Smartphones operate in the NFC range at 13.56 MHz, which is why 125 kHz and 866 MHz transponders cannot be read. Even within 13.56 MHz, the protocol, tag type and chip family determine whether a device understands the chip. For purely smartphone-based applications, NFC-compatible chips such as NTAG are therefore the right choice.
Not necessarily. Many access control and time-and-attendance systems read only the fixed chip identifier – the UID or NUID – and the backend system assigns this number to a user. In that case, all you need is the correct chip and a correctly documented UID list. It is important to ensure that the length, format and byte order are consistent with your target system.
We manufacture from 100 units. For larger print runs, we offer tiered pricing, lower unit costs and flexible delivery times. Our commercial focus is on series production. We are happy to clarify details in a non-binding enquiry.
